On systems with Chrome OS kernel 3.14 or later, we now enable CONFIG_SECURITY_PERF_EVENTS_RESTRICT in kernel, which sets the default value of perf_event_paranoid to a more restrictive level "3", instead of the previous default value "1". One substantial change is making sure that in case when NVMEM contents are corrupted for whatever reason, the initialization function re-creates a blank NVMEM space; it was just bailing out before not leaving any initialized partitions behind. There is no need in two separate tables - one for base absolute addresses of the NVMEM partitions, and one for their flash memory offsets, one can be easily derived from the other. Solution: follow CL:421275 This change takes away control of trackpad from EC entirely. This will prevent EC from interfering with the OS's interaction with the trackpad for firmware update, device detection at boot, or entering S3. Disadvantages are the trackpad will stay on (thus can wake up the system unintentionally) when the system enters S3 in laptop mode then transitions to tablet mode, or vice versa: the trackpad will stay off (thus cannot wake up the system) when the system enters S3 in tablet mode then transitions to laptop mode. However, these corner cases can be handled by waking up the system upon mode transition. The OS can then disable or enable the trackpad depending on the transition direction (laptop <-> tablet) and re-enters S3. Or the OS can leave the system running because mode transition implies a user's intention to start interacting with the device. The keyboard will continue to be managed by EC and disabled or enabled upon mode transition. Originally we do not allow to add extra field into the pattern because it would cause ambiguity. After adding a new kind of field into the pattern, we will decode the old HWID string to index 0 for the field, but we don't know if all old devices have the component what maps to index 0. But in practice, we face the scenario in early build: There is a component that cannot probed after the first HWID config file is created, and there is no second source for this component. In this case, we can append the field into the pattern directly after it can be probed. Prior to Linux 4.4, nfqnl_ct_parse() would process the NFQA_EXP attribute even if there were errors in the NFQA_CT attribute. After Linux 4.4, this is no longer true, so any error in the NFQA_CT attribute will cause the kernel to silently fail to create an expectation. The new check is causing user conntrack helpers to fail. If a user program sends an NFQA_CT attribute containing a CTA_TIMEOUT attribute before the connection is confirmed (i.e. before the initial ACCEPT/DROP decision has been made), del_timer() in ctnetlink_change_timeout() will fail, and all further processing will be aborted. The (simplified) calling sequence looks like: nfnetlink_rcv_msg nfqnl_recv_verdict nfqnl_ct_parse ctnetlink_glue_parse_ct ctnetlink_change_timeout del_timer [ERROR] nf_reinject __nf_conntrack_confirm Fix this by adding a case to ctnetlink_change_timeout() to handle unconfirmed connections. Also, if a timeout of 0 is set for an unconfirmed connection, restore the old behavior of ignoring it (rather than setting up a connection that expires immediately). We handle a single expression: #line <line number expression> but we avoid handling the double expression: #line <line number expression> <source string expression> because this is an ambiguous grammar. And what's more, because the card is going to sleep, this register read appears to take a very long time in some cases -- 3 milliseconds in my case! Now, I propose that (e) is completely unnecessary. If there were any additional interrupts signaled after the start of this loop, then the interrupt handler would have set adapter->int_status to non-zero and queued more work for the main loop -- and we'd catch it on the next iteration of the main loop. So this patch drops all the looping/re-reading of PCIE_HOST_INT_STATUS, which avoids the problematic (and slow) register read in step (e). Incidentally, this is a very similar issue to the one fixed in commit ec815dd2a5f1 ("mwifiex: prevent register accesses after host is sleeping"), except that the register read is just very slow instead of fatal in this case. Tested on 8997 in both MSI and (though not technically supported at the moment) MSI-X mode.
